DICV launches BharatBenz BSafe Express to fight COVID-19

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) launches a specialized ‘reefer’ truck - ‘BSafe Express’ for COVID-19 vaccine transportation pan India. The reefer truck is a result of the collaboration between DICV and Motherson Group.

The initiative is a mammoth step towards the India’s COVID vaccination drive, that has been dubbed as the largest one in the world, and aims to vaccinate close to 300 Mn people by July 2021. Moreover, reading on the BharatBenz COVID Vaccine Carrier Truck clearly states – “Proudly Carrying The Hopes of the Nation.”

The DICV BSafe Express is built on the 2823R heavy-duty multiaxle truck. The reefer truck is equipped with state-of-the-art connectivity and has aboard the latest refrigeration units, which help maintain the requisite temperature and stability crucial for the safe and sound transportation of the vaccines. Quick-turnaround times and higher up-times would try to mitigate the challenges put forth due to limited availability of cold-storage distribution network. The refrigerated container is provided by Motherson Group, which is one of the world’s leading auto-component makers. Glass Re-enforced Plastic and XPS Plastic are the major materials that comprise the body of the BharatBenz container truck and the resultant is a strong, highly-insulated, light-weight, non-corrosive and water-resistant solution. The reefer truck is a full-tech proof solution as is plays host to IoT sensors to monitor tilt angle, tampering attempts, humidity and shock waves; QR code tracking of the container truck; and temperature adjustment. But the most notable and highly-appreciated aspect of the DICV reefer truck is that it takes only 96 hours to develop a fully-assembled model, whereas existing products take around 3-4 weeks to deliver the same. This makes Motherson containers one of the most practical solution out there in the market.

At the premiere of the truck in the Indian capital Delhi, Mr. Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles said: “The combination of a strong, reliable chassis with a lightweight, insulated reefer and state-of-the-art connectivity device makes BharatBenz’s ‘BSafe Express’ the perfect solution to India’s cold-chain infrastructure challenge. With this truck, we can deliver vaccines in perfect condition to even the most remote destinations, bringing hope of a return to normalcy to over 1.3 billion people.”
