A New Player in the Market

Euler Motors has already found success with its electric three-wheelers, selling over 6,000 vehicles across 31 cities and having 35 service points. According to Sourav Kumar, the CEO and Founder of Euler Motors, sales of four-wheeled commercial vehicles are much higher than that of ev 3 wheelers. This is why the company entered the light commercial vehicle segment with these new models.

Performance of the Storm EV

Modular Design and Load Body Options

The Storm EV is constructed on a specialized modular skateboard platform, offering four load body configurations: flatbed, pickup van, high deck, and delivery van. The delivery van is available in two sizes, providing 220 or 260 cubic feet of storage.

Advanced Battery Technology

Powered by an advanced liquid-cooled battery, the Storm EV features an IP67-rated battery that is both water and dust-resistant. It complies with AIS 38 standards and utilizes the Arc Reactor 200, enhancing its performance over the previous Arc Reactor 100 used in the Euler Hi-Load EV mini truck. The battery delivers a peak power of 30 kW (40.2 hp) and 140 Nm of torque, achieving a top speed of 70 kilometres per hour.

Impressive Range and Charging Options

One of the standout features of the Storm EV is its impressive range. It can travel 140 km in real-world conditions, with a certified range of over 200 km. The vehicle offers two charging options: a 3.3 kW charger that takes approximately 6 hours to fully charge and a 6.6 kW fast charger that can do so in around 4 hours. For quick charging needs, the fast charger can provide enough power for a 100 km trip in just 30 minutes.

Robust Build Quality

The Storm EV mini truck is designed with durability in mind, featuring front and rear rigid axles and a tubular box-type chassis. It is available in two variants: the T1250 standard and the T1250 armoured version. The standard model includes a strong suspension with 7 rear semi-elliptical leaf springs, while the armoured version boasts 8 springs for added protection. Both variants come equipped with tyres suited for Indian road conditions.

Safety Features

For enhanced safety, the Euler Storm EV Pickup Truck includes roll arrest bars that improve stability during sharp turns and vacuum assist power braking for better control.

Features of the Euler Storm EV Mini Truck

The Storm EV mini truck comes with three driving modes: Range mode for maximum distance, Thunder mode for speed, and Rhino mode for climbing hills. Notably, it is the first commercial vehicle in India to come with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

ADAS uses sensors and cameras to help drivers with features like automatic emergency braking, collision warnings, lane departure alerts, blind spot detection, and traffic sign recognition.

Inside the vehicle, there are many modern features, including a 10.2-inch infotainment screen that is compatible with MapmyIndia and WhatsApp. The company will also provide 1 GB of free internet data each day to keep drivers connected.

The Storm EV has spacious interiors, a stylish exterior with LED headlights, and additional features like a dash cam, night vision assist, and collision warnings.

Details of the Euler Storm EV LR Pickup Truck

The Euler Storm EV LR mini truck, as its name suggests, is a long-range version of the Storm EV. It has a driving range of up to 200 km thanks to a larger 30 kWh liquid-cooled battery. With a fast charger, this battery can be charged in just 15 minutes, allowing for a quick 100 km drive.

This means the Storm EV LR cargo truck can travel 300 km with just a short break for charging. It comes with a 6.6 kW onboard charger that takes about 4.5 hours to charge fully. If you use a public CCS2 charging station, it can recharge in about 45 minutes.

The Euler Storm EV LR has a cargo body length of 10 feet and offers three load options: pickup van, a high deck, and a delivery van. The delivery van has a load volume of 330 cubic feet. Its larger wheelbase of 2700 mm ensures better stability and comfort when transporting goods.
For added safety, the vehicle has roll bars in the front and rear, and it features hill-assist technology for navigating steep areas.

Pricing and Availability

Euler Motors plans to begin deliveries of the new Storm EV models on October 3, 2024, in key cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Over the next couple of months, they aim to expand to 31 cities. Euler Storm EV mini truck price range starts at Rs 8.99 lakh, while Storm EV LR  mini truck price range starts at Rs. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). These are introductory prices and may change.

The company also offers a standard warranty of 5 years or 1.5 lakh km, with an option for an extended warranty of 7 years or 2 lakh km. Key competitors in this market include Switch IeV3 mini truck and Tata Ace EV Chota hathi, along with some traditional vehicles like Tata Intra V30 pickup, Ashok Leyland Dost LiTE mini truck, and Mahindra Veero pickup truck.

Can ADAS Revolutionize Safety in Commercial Vehicles?

ADAS, or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, could greatly improve safety in commercial vehicles. This technology uses sensors and cameras to help drivers by warning them of potential dangers. Features like automatic emergency braking, lane departure alerts, and blind spot detection can prevent accidents and save lives. With more companies adopting ADAS, drivers can feel more secure on the road. As a result, this technology not only enhances safety but also builds trust in electric commercial vehicles. Overall, ADAS has the potential to transform how we think about safety in the logistics industry.

What Challenges Might Euler Motors Face in the Market?

Euler Motors may encounter several challenges as it enters the electric vehicle market. Competition is tough, with established brands like Tata and Mahindra already in the game. These companies have strong customer loyalty and wider service networks. The charging infrastructure in India is still developing, making it difficult for drivers to find charging stations. The initial cost of electric vehicles can be high, which might discourage some buyers. Educating customers about the benefits of electric vehicles and new technology like ADAS will be essential for gaining market acceptance.

Conclusion

With the launch of Storm EV and Storm EV LR, Euler Motors is making a strong move into the light commercial vehicle market. These electric vehicles feature advanced technologies like ADAS, ensuring safety and efficiency. Their modern designs and impressive performance are set to attract customers, contributing to better fleet management and environmental sustainability in the logistics sector. As the market evolves, we hope to see these models succeed in meeting the needs of various businesses across India.
